This is a pretty simple strip; simple joke, one camera position, almost no movement from Summer. Yet this one strip changed my entire conception of MoJ in nearly every aspect. Prior to this, MoJ was just a short story with omniscient narration, little dialogue, much subtler humor, and no real story. Okay, so there still isn't really a story, but otherwise, it's completely different. Giving Hats and Sums just this much interaction on their own must've opened a door in my brain into their world, because after this, the ideas poured forth, and I couldn't stop them.

Yeah, back when these first 4-panel strips were drawn, though the explicit introduction already existed, I was pondering whether or not I wanted the continuing adventures to be hardcore or not. When the first few ideas I came up with didn't necessarily require zoomed-in shots of glistening genitals, I thought I'd give softcore a try--nothing more than exposed tits and implied action.

Guess how long that lasted.
